Black and Ivory Renaissance Chemise

Description

Aha hah hah hah.... so I started these in 2011. It's probably best that I didn't actually finish them in 2011, or anytime until this year, when I finally took getting some women's style shirts into my stock dead seriously.

This is one of three of this type of chemise that I'll have available on Etsy, and at any events I vend at if they don't sell online first. The body of the chemise is made of black cotton gauze, while the sleeves are a tattered lightweight polyester. I could actually see through it to my arms while in the sunlight. The pattern that I based this on gave some very different construction methods from what I actually used, and I'm so glad I waited until I decided on the methods I would use on one of my other styles I've been working on this year. I applied those construction techniques here to create the casings for the elastic in the neckline, empire waist, and the wrists. Less material used, lower cost of materials, and less time spent on it means I can price it more reasonably than I was originally figuring.

My interior seams are all finished to have a long lasting garment. I felt like a crazy person trying to get the sleeves to have a french seam, the material just kept slipping around while I was working on it. Patience ftw, I took my time, ironed a lot, ironed more, and went much slower running it through my sewing machine. The sleeves came out great! So the sleeve seams and the side seams of the body are all french seamed, while the underarm seam is double straight stitched, then zig-zagged.

I keep calling these Zombie Pirate Chemises to my sister, but of course they don't have to be worn just with a zombie theme. Or pirate theme. There are a dozen combinations you could do, even including some awesome Steampunk Mummy Hunter. (Yes I'm copying this same description on all three of these. Because I have *not* had enough caffeine to function well today.)

Update: this one-of-a-kind chemise has sold!
