Victorian styled flourishes and vine-work on a small pirate chest. The top has the lyrics to "Flamma" written across the planks.

Hello Crystal Kitty Cat,

Where did you get your hardware?

I don't actually get the hardware separately, the metal all came on the original chest. I take them off, do the woodburning and finishing of the wood, and add the hardware back on.

I buy the chests already made, pull everything off to do my woodburning and finishing to the wood, then put them back on. I'm hoping I can find some different pieces I can add onto them!

Oh how pretty! I am curious how long you had to practice to get good at it.. because I'm struggling with wood burning right now.. >.<'

Hmm... The first bit of woodburning I did was around 2007 or 2008. I was really bad at it, and the only thing I was even trying to do was write my name on a wood box! A few years went by, and I picked it up again to do my first phone case: [link]

If you notice, I'm still actually only doing line-work! I haven't gotten to a point where I've tried to shade any artwork yet; I've been able to only work with the style I feel most comfortable using. Are there any specific things you're having a hard time with?

Well I am having trouble with line work.. but really having trouble not being so heavy handed with the pen, I was laughing at myself because every time I would try to go light it would do nothing, then I would make the lines too dark.. lol Yeah, I haven't even attempted shading as of yet.

Ahh yeah. I've found that the hardness of the wood very much affects the darkness of my lines. I end up getting my hand cramped up from gripping and pushing down on my pen too much!
